August of 2023 brought the 28 year anniversary of Japan’s annual Goldfish Catching Contest in Yamatokōriyama, a city within the Nara Prefecture in the Kansai Region of Honshu, Japan. The city is widely known for its cultivation of the fish. Below, you can view footage of the contest, which had more than 1,600 attendees.
According to Euronews, this is the first time spectators were allowed to attend the event in four years since the initial spike of the coronavirus pandemic in 2019.
