This Species of Octopus Has Only Been Seen Twice Ever

Breaking news from the cutest animals of 2020 threads on Tumblr bring us to Casper, a cephalopod, or octopus, which is a newly found species marine biologists are calling “ghost octopi” due to lacking something called chromatophors, which are pigment cells, or comparatively to humans, what we know as melanin, or skin color.

This species of octopi has only been observed a small handful of times, according to this Reddit post that can be found below. Not much was found on the ghost octopus, other than a small article on NatureCanada, which explains it was found on the seabed while exploring an area near the Hawaiian Archipelago.
